Volunteer Members Providing Professional Services

Snyder Firefighters provide emergency services to the Snyder community. We are always recruiting new members to be part of our organization. Experience is not necessary, we will provide all of the training needed. Being a volunteer does not mean we are ill-equipped or trained. 

Our Members train regularly and maintain certifications such as New York State EMT-Basic. Check out our Membership Requirements to learn more! In addition to being provided outstanding training, our Firefighters are provided top-notch fire gear and tools to accomplish our job. 

We place a strong emphasis on professionally serving the public. Many of our members feel a sense of duty, honor, and loyalty in service to their community. Being a member of the Snyder Fire Department is a great place to give back while building your own sense of service and duty.

Membership Types

The Snyder Fire Department offers two types of Membership options:

On-Call Membership:

Must reside within the fire district residency borders.

Achieve attendance requirements by responding to calls.

Attend an annual minimum of 8 firemanic drills, 2 EMS drills, and 2 work details.

Duty Shift Membership:

There are no residency requirements.

Achieve attendance requirements by working a set number of hours as shifts at the firehouse.

There are no squad assignments.

Attend an annual minimum of 8 firemanic drills, 2 EMS drills, and 2 work details.


Who Can Join the Snyder Fire Department?

Members of the Snyder Fire Department come from all walks of life, but new applicants interested in On-Call Membership are required to reside within the fire district or expanded response area. Please see the Snyder Fire District Map for these boundaries. Duty Shift Membership does not require residency within these boundaries.

Prospective Members have to be a minimum of 16 years of age to join our Junior Firefighter program, and 18 to join as a Probationary Member of the Fire Department. Experience is not necessary before joining the Fire Department, we will provide you the tools and support to become a high-performing member of the Fire Department.
